The ECRC N4 identified an urgent need for additional Chemical Biological Radiological Defense (CBRD) training for OCONUS deployers that are scheduled to leave straight from the ECRC with no other training track. The existing “Train the Trainer” course through the Army’s Task Force Marshall (TFM) at Ft Jackson, SC was not a viable option to meet the needs and timing of the ECRC. The ECRC N4 reached out to NSWC PCD and the Kalman Team for assistance in developing and delivering a training course within a five-hour block of instruction similar to that performed at Ft Jackson.
Since this was a new requirement, the instruction was conceived and developed specifically for the ECRC N4 CBRD deployments and tailored to their specific instructional needs and schedule. Kalman’s instruction module was vetted through the NSWC PCD and ECRC N4 in an expedited schedule of less than one month. This training course was designed to incorporate lecture, demonstration and practical application methods of instruction for the Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology (JSLIST) and CBRD fittings. The training was administered a Primary Instructor and an Assistant Instructor starting 22 January 2017 and for all future scheduled training sessions at Norfolk, VA.
The Kalman Team successfully developed and executed the first ever ECRC N4 CBRD-JLIST class for direct OCONUS Individual Augmentees (IAs) leaving ECRC. This is now an on-going requirement that occurs weekly for all direct OCONUS Sailors processing through ECRC. The instruction is critiqued by the attendees. Kalman continues to incorporate the documented feedback and adjusts the training materials as needed to enhance the efficacy of instruction and process improvement.
